Thea???

If Thea did write the manuscript instead of Lovborg then wouldn't she be a very smart woman?
If she is so smart why would she let Hedda control her? If she where the woman with the power and control in this play wouldn't she be smart enough to avoid Hedda's trickery? I think it was pretty obvious of what Hedda was doing. If someone was that awful to you in school why would you befriend then after a few poorly told lies? I don't know whether to think she is a genius or an idiot.

Everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses. I think that Thea may definitely be book smart if she was able to write the manuscript, however she does appear to be considerably slower when it comes to social skills and using her intelligence and power to her benefit.

She is smart--she pretends to be controlled by Hedda and ultimately gets control over Hedda's tesman. And she puts up with Hedda because she knows that Hedda is really weak (she can't control anything). Thea does have power over men--controlling Lovborg and Tesman with the manuscript. So, she is a bit of a genius in my opinion.
